I Need a Farmer in My Life

You have a doctor, a yoga teacher, a dentist and possibly an acupuncturist, so don’t you think its time you got a farmer? After all, healthy food is the key to a healthy body, something that we tend to forget in the stress and hustle of our lives, when that fast food is calling our names.

But Charm City Yoga has an idea: let BaltimOrganic take care of your food.

Run by members of the CCY family, BaltimOrganic is community supported agriculture. Together, we can support the BaltimOrganic farm in Monkton, MD, and in return receive an 8 pound bag of fresh, seasonal, local produce every week available for pick-up at either our Midtown, Fells Point, or Towson studios.

Think about it: get in a yoga class and pick up your produce (which you already paid for months ago) all in one place.

I think food is pretty important so having a local, natural farmer sounds like a good idea.  If you agree please give some consideration to BaltimOrganic’s 2011 CSA program. They’re also going to post recipes on the website that relate to the produce that week, so you’ll know what to do with your riches.

A share costs $425 for 18 weeks of produce from June through mid-October. Get a 5% discount if you join by April 30th.

The Monkton farm is only 25 miles from CCY Midtown, so they have a tiny carbon footprint and maintain a responsible ecological approach to farming to preserve soil and other natural resources while nurturing their customers.  If this sounds interesting please visit their web site for more details and to sign up: www.baltimorganic.com

I know I’m signing up.

PS. photos are of actual produce on the Monkton farm. So… pretty gorgeous, right?

Kim and I are really thrilled to be hosting Baltimorganic again this year. We had a share last year, and the produce was phenomenal. The one thing that really sticks in my mind was: THE TOMATOES! Week after week of fantastic, tasty, beautiful, REAL tomatoes. Strongly recommended, KIm and Chris

These vegetables are like manna from heaven. From the day, we consumed our last tomato, we have been longing for these legumes!

Baltimorganic vegies were like manna from heaven. Jon Shaw has elevated the lowly vegetable to lofty heights!

Chris what a wonderful post ! Eating locally and supporting the community has an amazing effect on our psyche. Not to mention those amazing tomatoes ! What a great reminder that you can purchase food in your own backyard and have the freshest food energy to feed your soul. Sometimes we forget how many miles traveled from food to fork.
    - Conventional Brocolli=3600 miles… locally 40
    - Onion = 1, 000 miles..
    - Corn = 1200 miles…
Makes sense to me to get on the BaltimOrganic bandwagon.
    Thanks for your beautiful reminder.

I had a share last year and just loved it. It was great to try out new vegetables….who knew my kids would go crazy over kale? It was very helpful to have recipes. Thanks BaltimOrganics!
