A Multifaceted Yogi
Even yogis need a little extra help sometimes. Todd Bauer is Charm City Yoga owners, Chris and Kim’s personal trainer. On these winter days when the weather doesn’t always cooperate, Kim isn’t able to ride her bike to the studio. Of course, Kim credits her physique to her vigorous yoga practice, but in order to stay strong as a cyclist, Kim turns to Todd. Todd is also a yogi and understands the benefits of adding a yoga practice to your fitness regimen. We asked Todd to tell us a little about how he uses yoga to find balance in his life, and in the lives of his clients.
How long have you been a personal trainer? How did you get into the field?
Born and raised in Baltimore, I grew up with very little nutritional knowledge and was an overweight adolescent. Heading into high school, I decided I was tired of leading an unhealthy lifestyle and began working out. Once I started seeing the results–feeling better both internally and externally–I realized fitness would play a strong role in the rest of my life. I began my Personal Training career over 8 years ago out of Salisbury University, where I received a B.S. in Exercise Science. Since then, I have gone on to receive specialties in Nutrition, Pre/Post Natal, Corrective Exercise, and Golf Conditioning, continuing to gain new knowledge in every aspect of fitness.
When did you start practicing yoga? Do you incorporate it into your clients’ training?
I started practicing yoga about 6 years ago. A good friend and now business partner (Chris Sams), brought me to an evening hot vinyasa session, and I have been hooked ever since. I highly suggest hot yoga to my clients, and will often accompany my clients to their first session.
How has yoga helped/affected your training? Do you find it useful?
Yoga has kept me flexible and injury free throughout my vigorous training routine. My balance has improved dramatically. I even get a few new exercise ideas out of it.
Any advice for cyclists who want to stay fit in the winter but can’t ride their bike to work?
As a mountain biker, I use the stair climber and cycling classes throughout the off-season. I suggest taking a book on the stair climber; it helps with those hour-long cardio sessions.

Todd would like to invite Charm City Yoga’s community to try out a session with him. His workouts are anything but mundane and monotonous; instead they are focused on various types of circuit training based on the client’s specific goals and needs.
“Not everyone shares the same passion for exercise; however, if you practice variety,” he says, “and create a fun and comfortable atmosphere, even those who dread working out can find a sense of enjoyment out of each session.”
