Yoga Birth Program

Monday, June 4th, begins a six week innovative childbirth preparation program that combines the ancient mind-body wisdom of yoga with education on the modern birthing environment.

Lead by teacher and mother Heather Hamlin Brown, this program is dedicated to empowering pregnant women to trust their own inherent wisdom and strength to guide them through pregnancy and childbirth.

Heather, RYT, was deeply inspired by her own experience of yoga during pregnancy as a primary method of readying body, mind and spirit for the magical and transformative experience of giving birth to her baby and herself as a mother. She encourages women to reclaim their power to give birth as nature intended, without an over reliance on invasive medical techniques.

Heather is a Registered Yoga Teacher with the Yoga Alliance, and has studied extensively the mind-body connection to health and holistic care during pregnancy and childbirth.

This workshop is $295. Pre-registration is encouraged as there is a limited amount of space

Yoga for Veterans Fundraiser

Charm City Yoga is teaming up with non-profits Semper Fidelis Health & Wellness and the Veterans Yoga Project to raise funds for an upcoming veterans’ yoga retreat to the Feathered Pipe Ranch in Helena, MT.

This event will feature a powerfully grounding and rejuvenating yoga class taught by Suzanne Manafort, a raffle for yoga gear, and a screening of “The Welcome”, a moving documentary about the positive transformations that take place after a unique veterans’ healing retreat.

100% of the proceeds from this event will offset tuition and travel for veterans to attend their own Mindful Yoga retreat in August.

Show your support for our veterans and check it out this Saturday, May 26th, 6:15pm at our Towson studio. Though all generosity is welcomed, a suggested donation of $25 is greatly appreciated!

This Weekend: Mussar with Edith

This weekend, on May 13th, starts the next 6 week session of Mussar with Edith Brotman at our Pikesville studio. This new course, designed especially for the Pikesville community, is an enlightening experience meant to open new doors in your practice and personal life. Mussar is a traditional Jewish form of self-study that shares a lot in common with the yogic practice of svadhyaya. The program involves discussion and sharing, and can incorporate the use of mantras, journaling, meditation and yoga.

After years of ballet and chasing fitness fads, Edith has tremendous gratitude to the mysterious inner voice that first put her on the yoga mat in 1994. Today, she teaches yoga as a physically, emotionally and spiritually transformative experience. Her practice and teaching have been most influenced by Baron Baptiste and she continues to study with him. She has experience with the Anusara style, as well. Edith is the recent recipient of a Dorbrecht Grant for Judaic Yoga.

Two texts are highly recommended: Everyday Holiness by Alan Morinis and Meditations from the Mat by Rolf Gates. The class is open to anyone interested in deepening their spirituality through self awareness and intention.

The course meets each Sunday evening for six weeks from 8-9:30 p.m.

The course costs $90 for the six week session.

Should I Try Astanga?

Among the different styles of yoga we offer at Charm City Yoga, Astanga is a popular style among passionate yogis. We often get questions from students about what Astanga is and how it differs from our other vinyasa classes. Well, if you’re an advanced yogi or yogini looking for something new and challenging, then look no further. Brought to the West by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, Astanga is known among the yoga community as a more athletic form of yoga — the Astanga classes we offer are 3-diamond. Read More…

Make Peace with Stress

Stress is an unfortunate part of everyone’s life. But yoga offers us opportunities to handle it and make peace with it. This Sunday, Stephannie is offering a special workshop with tips on how yoga can help you cope with everyday stress. Her 2 hour workshop will explore common areas of tension, like the neck, shoulders, upper and lower back, and the hips with a slow paced yoga flow that will allow beginners to practice safely and will offer more advanced students the opportunity to build on these foundational postures.
